Subject and Process: Painting on the sandy Tuscarora beach was one of the most relaxing sessions of my life. As the light changed, I adjusted my view, discovering an even prettier scene. My small paintings let me focus closely on the landscape, and here, I was excited to capture the color of Lake Ontario and the canopy of trees above its short.
Lake Ontario: The lake's color varies by season and location, but near the shore, its bright bluish-turquoise feels especially vibrant. Shaped by glacial retreats, Lake Ontario has long been a hub for trade and cultural exchange, supporting the Haudenosaunee Confederacy (Iroquois), Tuscarora people, and later, agricultural industries. Today, the fertile "fruit belt" surrounding the lake thrives with diverse crops.
