Ringneck Marsh
Named for the Ring-necked duck, Ringneck Marsh is a protected freshwater wetland. The Ring-necked duck is just one of many bird species that frequent the marsh during migration, as this is a key part of the Atlantic Flyway - one of four main bird migration corridors in North America.
While I painted, I enjoyed watching and listening to a number of Great Blue Herons. I focused the illusion on the sky peeping through the canopy of trees and its understory.
The painting represents the relationship between sky and land, which are both instrumental in supporting bird species: the sky provides them a transit for travel, while the land provides them with sustenance and rest.
