Lake Ontario, Fort Niagara: Framed Plein Air Color Match Illusion

$339.00
Sold Out

This unique painting was meticulously crafted as an illusion at Fort Niagara, at the merge of Lake Ontario and the Niagara River. It has been archivally framed for optimal presentation and preservation and comes with a certificate of authenticity.

Engaging Art Process Videos: The illusion process was posted on social media on November 1st, 2024. Scroll down to see the full process video as well as a brief process lapse. View additional shortform content on my social media channels.

Environmental Responsibility: I prioritize environmentally-responsible artmaking practices, ensuring optimization of materials and minimal waste during the creation of this piece.

Subject and Process: I set up on Fort Niagara Beach on a windy day, making the best of ever-changing lighting conditions. This site holds a special view, as the water is a specific color mixed from the turquoise Niagara River and the darker Lake Ontario.

Fort Niagara: This site is not only picturesque, but it holds great historical value as well. Long before the area saw colonial fortifications, Fort Niagara Beach was a central place for Indigenous communities who relied on its waters for trade, gathering, and sustenance. Later, it was transformed into a military post, becoming especially known for its role in the French and Indian War and the War of 1812. Visiting this beach, I'm reminded of our responsibility to learn from history and to seek a future grounded in harmony and respect for the natural world.

Key Features:

  • Original varnished plein air illusion oil painting

  • Acid-free fine art Bristol board, triple gessoed

  • Frame: 6.5 x 5 x 1 inches. Painting: 3.25 x 2.25 inches

  • Custom black frame with acid-free double matting

  • Mounted with archival, acid-free methods that don't damage the original artwork; can be reframed in the future

  • Ready to display! Hanging hardware and wire pre-installed

  • Museum glass (virtually invisible) for optimal viewing

  • Certificate of authenticity included
