Outlander Necklace: Scottish Highlands Micro Painting on Sea Glass
Inspired by Outlander, this necklace bears the Scottish highlands painted on sea glass. The painting’s coloring appears antique as if found in a jewelry box from a few hundred years ago.
This is made with sea glass I found on the banks of the Niagara River at Fort Niagara. I used the tiniest of brushes to paint this scene. I achieved the antique colors by using a modified Zorn palette.
DEPICTION:
Scottish Highlands mountain range against a deep blue sky. Hint of pink on the horizon. Dark trees along the mountain range and in foreground. Foreground features soft green and amber-colored grasses.
DETAILS:
Brown sea glass from Niagara River
Oil paint and glossy resin varnish
18 inch gold-plated chain and bail (shiny and sturdy)
Pendant and bail are about 1 3/8 inches in height (together)
OUTLANDER:
I’m a fan of the Outlander series. This painting captures the Scottish Highlands, such as the places Jamie and Clare traveled through. The sea glass seemed a perfect thing to use as a pendant because the glass has been through a long journey, like Claire’s time travel journey.
SEA GLASS’S JOURNEY:
Sand was turned into glass
The glass was made into products
The products were consumed and discarded
Water, sand, and wind soften the broken bits of glass
Someone like me finds it on a sandy beach and turns it into something new

To prolong the luster of the gold chain and bezel, please take off the necklace when bathing, sleeping, or exercising.
